ANNOUNCEMENT The Board of Directors and Members of the Reading Area
Firefighters Museum is pleased to announce the continuation of the John J. Zolomij
Memorial Scholarship. This award will be presented to a current Berks County
Junior Firefighter or child of a Berks County firefighter in the Spring of 2024.
John J. Zolomij (1947-2020) built a career in museum leadership starting in the
1980s. Mr. Zolomij was recognized nationally, as a distinguished specialist and
consultant in art history and museum design. A lifelong educator, John is
remembered for leveraging his skills and contacts to uplift people around him,
mentoring young people, planning educational tours and serving both friends and
strangers in need. John was an esteemed consultant to our Museum, and a friend.
OBJECTIVE The primary aim of this scholarship is to provide a Junior
Firefighter or child of a current Berks County Firefighter reimbursement for tuition or materials that need to be purchased for post secondary education.
AMOUNT The scholarship award amount will be a one time ($1,000) one
thousand dollar reimbursement to the selected candidate.
CRITERIA The candidate needs to provide the Museum Selection Committee
with the following information:
FOR JUNIOR FIREFIGHTER
FOR CHILD OF CURRENT BERKS COUNTY FIREFIGHTER
As a lifelong educator, Mr. Zolomij was a distinguished museum specialist and consultant. His unique skills lifted those around him, whether mentoring young people or serving friends and strangers in need. John was a dear friend and a valuable asset to our Museum.

It is a fitting memorial that this scholarship will provide a Berks County Junior Firefighter with the financial support needed to purchase firefighting gear or the books, materials and supplies necessary to continue their post-secondary education.

"I was born and raised in Boyertown and am proud to be a part of a community of dedicated first responders, alongside my grandfather, father, brother and uncle. I currently have my EMR certification and completed my EMT course through Berks Career and Technology Center during my 11th and 12 grade years. "
Miss Reitnauer also volunteers at the Bechtelsville Fire Company and has completed numerous training courses at the Berks Fire Training Center as well as her participation in many Fire Company fundraising activities.
Meagan will be pursuing a degree in nursing at DeSales University.
